Visualizing a Century of Change
Climate change is frequently framed in abstract terms — global averages, distant projections, targets for 2050. At HELIOS, we believe the story becomes far more urgent, and far more actionable, when it is grounded in a specific place. That is why we built an animation tracing Türkiye's annual temperature trend across more than 100 years. The pattern is unmistakable: while individual years rise and fall, the long-term trajectory of warming is increasingly difficult to ignore.
This visualization is more than a data exercise. It is the starting point of a broader conversation HELIOS is opening as Türkiye prepares to step onto the global climate stage.
Why COP31 in Antalya Matters
Türkiye is set to host the global climate community at COP31 in Antalya, positioning the country — and the wider region — at the center of international climate diplomacy. COP31 represents a significant moment for Türkiye's climate policy trajectory, bringing together governments, scientists, investors, and technology developers to negotiate the next phase of global emissions reduction commitments. For a country experiencing measurable, long-term warming of its own, hosting this conversation is not symbolic — it is an opportunity to translate national climate data into concrete industrial and policy action, and to showcase homegrown climate technology to a global audience.
A Century of Data, One Clear Signal
The animation released by HELIOS compiles over a century of annual temperature records for Türkiye into a single, continuous visual narrative. Rather than presenting isolated data points, the format allows viewers to observe the accumulation of change over decades — a trend that mirrors patterns seen across the globe, but grounded in local, verifiable data. The message is deliberately simple: climate change is not a future scenario. It is a measurable pattern already embedded in the historical record of the places we live.
What This Means for HELIOS: From Data to Deployment
For HELIOS, this data underscores the mission driving our core technology work: developing advanced materials and scalable carbon capture solutions to directly address rising emissions. Our focus on Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) positions HELIOS at the frontier of next-generation carbon capture — materials engineered with the porosity and selectivity needed to capture CO₂ more efficiently and at greater scale than conventional approaches.
This work is not happening in a policy vacuum. Across Europe, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) are reshaping the economics of carbon-intensive industries, placing a direct cost on unmitigated emissions embedded in traded goods. As CBAM's transitional period moves toward full implementation, exporters and manufacturers connected to EU supply chains — including many in Türkiye — face increasing pressure to reduce their carbon footprint or absorb rising compliance costs. Scalable carbon capture technology is quickly shifting from a research ambition to a commercial necessity for industries seeking to remain competitive under these frameworks.
HELIOS is building with this reality in mind: starting in Türkiye, but engineering carbon capture solutions designed for global industrial deployment and international regulatory alignment.
Building Climate Technology, Starting at Home
As COP31 brings global attention to Antalya, HELIOS is committed to contributing more than commentary — we are building the materials science and carbon capture infrastructure that industries will need to navigate a world shaped by CBAM, EU ETS, and rising climate accountability. We invite the climate tech ecosystem, policymakers, and industrial partners to follow our progress as we advance from Türkiye's own climate story toward technology built for the world.
