HELIOS at Slush 2025: Connecting Climate Goals with Global Impact

Slush 2025 was a significant milestone for HELIOS. Attending one of the world's most influential startup and technology events as a team for the first time was both energizing and inspiring. From intense presentation sessions to meaningful exchanges with founders, investors, and industry leaders, this experience truly reinforced the value of being part of a global innovation ecosystem.

At a time when our planet is approaching a critical breaking point, events like Slush are more important than ever. With global CO₂ emissions projected to reach an all-time high of 37.8 gigatons in 2024 (almost 50% above pre-industrial levels), the world is falling short of its net-zero commitments under the Paris Agreement. If global warming exceeds the 2°C threshold, the risks of irreversible change, such as accelerated ice melt, rising sea levels, and ecosystem collapse, are becoming increasingly real. Heavy industries such as steel, cement, and energy production are among the largest contributors to global emissions. Overcoming this challenge requires scalable and implementable carbon capture solutions that work directly at the source of pollution. HELIOS is developing advanced sorbent materials based on Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) to enable more efficient carbon capture from industrial flue gases and support the decarbonization of hard-to-decarbonize sectors. Our presence at Slush 2025 was not just about visibility, it was also about dialogue. Throughout the event, we engaged with stakeholders who shared a common belief: that advanced materials can play a transformative role in building a more sustainable industrial future. These conversations reinforced our belief and opened new avenues for collaboration.
